2024 Himalayan 452
2024 Royal Enfield Himalayan 452
All new for 2024, the Himalayan has revised styling that gives the bike a more refined look, but the big news is the 16 hp bump from an all-new 452cc DOHC liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that puts out 39.5 hp at 8,000 rpm and 29.5 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,500 rpm. The previous 411cc SOHC air-cooled single-cylinder mill delivered 24.3 bhp at 6,500 rpm and 23.6 lb.-ft. at 4,000 rpm. Those extra ponies will be even easier to take advantage of, because the transmission now boasts 6 speeds up from 5 of it’s predecessor.
The new model gets a new chassis, with a subframe that’s removable, and better suspenders. Up front you will find beefier 43mm upside-down forks with an unchanged 7.8 inches of travel, while out back the linkage shock now sports 7.8 inches of travel (up from 7 inches previously). The redesigned tank is flared behind the crash bars upping the capacity to 4.5 gallons (2 liters increase) that give this bike a claimed range of 280 miles per tank.
Slowing the new much faster Himalayan down are larger brake rotors front and back. The front gets a 320mm disc up from 300mm, out back you’ll find a 270mm disc up from 240mm. For stability the wheelbase has been increased, from 58.0 inches to 59.4 inches. Weight has been reduced by 7 pounds. The seat has been redesigned, with a seat height of 32.4 inches and an available low seat coming in at 31.7 inches. Both can be adjusted to add up to 0.8 inch. It’s almost an inch higher than the previous Himalayan, but overall the bike remains accessible for most riders.
The old analogue dash has now been replaced with a 4-inch round TFT display that integrates all warnings, settings, and even a navigation system powered by Google maps. A new ride-by-wire throttle allows for three riding modes, while the taillights are now integrated with rear turn signals. Color options will be Hanle Black, Kamet White, Slate Poppy Blue, Slate Himalayan Salt, and Kaza Brown.
The rear tire has grown to 140/80-17 from 120/90-17 no doubt to handle the stronger motor. Wider wheels with new cross-spoke tubeless option is available on up-spec’d variants. Speaking of cost, pricing is yet to be released, but will surely be north of the $5,449 MSRP for the 2023 Himalayan.
