Antigravity Re-Start Lithium Battery Install

For Husqvarna 701 and KTM 690

Antigravity re-start lithium battery

If you plan to log some big miles and want to be sure you don't get surprised by a dead battery far from everywhere, or if you just want to loose a few pounds without cutting out the snacks, then this antigravity re-start battery is a great solution for both. On the Husqvarna 701 enduro and it's sibling the KTM 690 you will need to make a couple little modifications to properly fit this battery and preserve easy access to Antigravity's little magic re-start button without tools. The Antigravity re-start battery has battery management technology that helps protect the battery from over-drawing and over charging. It is also 70% lighter than lead acid batteries with a significantly better shelf life than stock batteries. Most riders can go all winter with just one good charge, and many riders I talk to get away with not charging at all in the off season. Although for me, I always feel better when I hook up the trickle charger every eight weeks or so. Nevertheless, as with all lithium batteries, be sure to ONLY use a charger designed for Lithium Batteries. Regular lead acid battery chargers can damage the cells in the battery!

To complete the installation, start with pulling the ECM off the top plate and remove the plate with a 8mm socket. Be careful not to drop these bolts, it can be tricky to retrieve them if you do.

Next up disconnect battery leads, removing the black negative lead first.

Antigravity battery same size as stock battery

The Antigravity battery is almost identical in size to the stock battery.

Stock battery weight

At six pounds fourteen ounces the stock battery is almost seven pounds. Situated well above the bikes center of gravity this is weight you feel at low speeds and when you are stopped…or worse…picking it up off the ground.

Just a hair over two pounds this battery feels as light as a feather. It provides all the power of the stock battery plus carries an imbedded power pack that is always ready to give you a boost at the push of a button.

Curiously the square nuts in the kit are very loose and are sure to fall into the center of the bike if you try to balance them all the way there. So, thread the bolts in before installing the battery in the cage. Or better yet secure them as shown below.

15lb two sided tape

Common 15lb two sided tape is always handy around the shop.

As I get the battery and all connections situated this nut stayed neatly in place. Although it is easy to skip this quick fix by just being extra careful, there is a chance that the next time you pull the battery you will be reminded of this issue by having to dig around in the middle of the bike retrieving that little fastener. Easily avoidable by a small square of tape.

Reconnecting the battery leads is done in reverse order, meaning the Red positive lead is attached first. The bolts included with the battery are larger than stock bolts and have 10mm heads.

The two main leads on the battery have connectors that are bent at a ninety degree angle. On the stock battery the poles are tall enough for these connectors be connected in an up and down configuration.

On the new battery you will have to rotate these connectors so that they protrude out to the sides of the bike in order to fit the shorter Antigravity poles.

The Antigravity is slightly tighter fit vertically. Removing foam from the corners is necessary to get the top plate to fit. Some foam needs to also be removed to avoid gripping the Re-Start button as you slide the plate into place.

A hacksaw or coping saw will work to remove the small section from the top plate.

3D cutting blade for hacksaw

If you use a hacksaw you will need a 3D cutting blade that can make non-linear cuts.

With the the section cut out and lightly filed to remove any rough edges, it’s time to finish the install.

With everything in place, and the notch taken out, the highly coveted Re-Start button is now easily accessible even with gloves on.

Lastly, secure the top plate with the 8mm bolts and replace the ECM.

Charging new battery on motorcycle

Charging the new battery is even easier with the SAE connector I already installed on this 701. You can read about this in an earlier post, or visit Dual Sport Garage on Youtube. As with all lithium batteries, be sure to ONLY use a charger designed for Lithium Batteries. Regular lead acid battery chargers can damage this battery!
